Back in Time: Algonquin Peak Via Avalanche Pass!

Back in Time: Algonquin Peak Via Avalanche Pass!

UPDATE 8/7/2016:

I have finally pulled the photos and videos from our two ascents of Algonquin Peak via Avalanche Pass and posted a video on our YouTube channel!

I just booked our first Winter camp in the Adirondacks! SO EXCITED!! We will stay at a lean to in John’s Brook Valley next month. We are feverishly doing our due diligence now – so many options for gear! We have plenty of apparel already for cold and snow, but our camp gear is three-season.

All of these ‘first’ feelings have awakened a nostalgia in me. I keep thinking about our first excursion into the high peaks region.

This is a tale of EPIC proportions, about one of the very best days of my life. There is no way to cliff note this tale, so get comfortable. : )

I don’t know what possessed us to choose Algonquin as our first high peak climb, but we did. At 5,114 ft tall, it is the second highest mountain in NY state.

I believe the discussion went something like this: “Look at this one!!! Only 9 miles…or a little more for two more peaks!”

Teehee. ; )

I still stop at this spot to shoot, every time, and it never looks the same twice. The intersection at Loj Rd. and Rte. 73 offers a spectacular panoramic view of the MacIntyre range and Indian Pass. Our objective for this outing, Algonquin Peak, was right in front of us (unbeknownst to us), but it was obscured by the clouds.
